Yun Yong Eun, 38
Boxer from Gwanju
What did you do to train for a fight?
Running is the fundamental practice. That I did every day, from 8-12 km. In the morning I would run, then shadow box, then go to the gym and jump rope--ten sets, each set 3 minutes. Then more shadow boxing and punching the sandbag. Finally sparring. Some boxers say you shouldn’t have sex the night before the fight. Is that true?
Yes. You will feel fatigue easier and it will affect your performance. No masturbation either! (laughter). How many nights before the fight no sex?
Normally from three months before the fight.Really? Three months? How often did you fight?
When I was an amateur, two or three times a month, or even once a week. As a pro, just seven times in four years.Honestly, did you ever feel fear before a fight?
No, not at all. I had very many fights and was never afraid. What was your pro record?
7 wins and 0 losses.Awesome! Why did you stop?
I’m a little ashamed, but I got in a fight—a non-boxing fight. It was horrible. I hurt a man really badly so I was forced to stop boxing by the commissioner. How much money does a prize fighter make?
Actually it doesn’t make any difference if you win or lose. 50,000 won (5,100 yen) for each round. If I fought until the 8th round, that would be 400,000 won (40,000 yen).So when you’re fighting it’s better, financially, to not knock your opponent out. Did you ever drag a fight out to make more money?
No, never. Pride is more important than money. I never went easy on anybody. I valued self-esteem most. If you win you deserve something better. Also, it makes you more valuable as a fighter.the end
